It’s Not About The Photographs and It’s Not About You.

Well, ok- It is, and it’s not.

Lately I’ve had many women call wanting to be part of the project ( We are now taking submissions!) and focusing on the images as part of our initial conversation so I thought I’d address the photos in this post about how we use them as a tool to access a deeper experience.

TRP has discovered that one way for a woman to get “related” to herself is to be photographed in this way.   There is some preparation for the experience and then the session. The woman in the photographs others see on our site have been through our unique workshop experience which is essential to her shoot.

Once the photo process is over – the work has only JUST begun!  What happens before, during, and especially after the experience is very REVEALING to her-  about herself, her community, and her life. We want her to pay attention and document some of these discoveries. She is asked to participate in an interview, and then she is asked to continue to engage with us over the course of her year.

badass

Toward the end of 2012 we had a gathering of many of the women who have participated in the project to date and we had a chance to go around the room and hear about how the project has impacted each of them individually.  The impact that it’s had on them was moving, inspiring, and mind blowing.

So why is this post entitled “It’s not about the photographs and it’s not about you? “

Well-

What we’ve learned is that the photography piece is just a tool to help women get INside herself.  Once she is IN, she gets WAY IN until she’s kind of turned inside out ( but in a great way!)  At some point the revelations you have about yourself extend outward, which build your community, create a new community,  shed insight on how you impact your life, those you love, and the world, and transform your need to “get more” into a desire to “give more” with an increased capacity for authenticity, depth, and a love  stronger than you have ever had before.

The Soul of A Garden

It’s been an interesting few weeks.  ”Full tilt” as they say.

My house has been “spring cleaned,” my deck looks like a paradise, and I’ve been gardening for the first time in my life.

Deliberately planting, nurturing and pruning flowers, bushes, and tree’s in my yard.  I feel like I understand this practice of gardening- it’s such a lovely experience to watch an “intention” grow to fruition.

Another metaphor in my life- yes?

I am noticing all kinds of positive shifts in my life now, and I think they are happening finally because of all the “digging” i’ve been doing these past few years.  For every turn there is a season, and yada yada – I know I know… so queer, and yet, that is where I am.  Finally smelling the flowers. Finally planting the seed’s for tomorrow’s garden. Finally pruning and dead heading the stuff that is no longer serving me.

Other shifts include other women of course:  working with some amazing career women, coaching them toward brand identify.  I love this work so much because it gives me great joy to lead others toward discovery.  I love the process when they arrive at their own answers and see their own vision, and gain clarity and confidence and strength. Have I mentioned how much I love working with women? Amazing creatures we are. We are so very gifted as a species- yes?  Our innate wisdom, ability to create, multi-task, gather, share, and inspire others is an ability we all hold as women.  It’s about finding the places that “stop us” from living our most authentic self.  In life and in business.

Although I have not been writing much, I’ve sure been observing and thinking a lot.

The project (always) stretches me to look at things differently and for each woman who participates she gives me a new way of looking at things.  She brings me perspective, insights, and courage.  I see each one of the women who put themselves into this work as partners  in discovery.  They teach me so very much about how valuable it is to step outside of our comfort zone to explore things not yet known to ourselves.  Their willingness to be open, vulnerable, and exposed to the audience we have cultivated is beyond inspiring and I know that each one of them has made a positive difference in the lives of many others who have touched them through the context of this project.

Perhaps my interest in gardening now comes from wanting to keep bringing beauty into my world – I see that it’s possible.  I see that when you intentionally partner with others to create something wonderful, that almost anything can happen.

Each aspect of our lives as women needs care and watering.  Is there an area of your life that you need to stop ignoring and start to make a tiny change?  Is there an un-cultivated garden somewhere in your yard, your business, your soul?

I hope you’ll join us when the time is right for you.  xo

MISS REPRESENTATION

As women we still have a long way to go if we want to see “change” happen in our lifetime.

As the head of our households we are the role model for our children.

When I was a little girl I wanted to be President of the United States for about a day because when I said it out loud – My Dad laughed.  I loved my Dad-  AND he was part of a generation that believed that a woman’s place was in the home, and that college for women was really about finding a good husband who could “take care” of me.  I was clear on this when I got a full scholarship to a prestigious art school in the midwest and he refused it- because I would never meet an fellow male artist who could support me. As I write this – I feel a stirring in my gut- part anger, and part amazement.  As a little girl, our Mom’s and Dad’s set the tone for how we view our “place” in the world- I certainly got and believed that message.

It took me till I was well into adulthood to claim myself and I still new pieces of myself everyday now that my world view has shifted.

If we take a quick look around these days women are more confused than ever and continue to be abused by our society and the media.

Objectified
Assaulted
Trafficked
Exploited
Pitted against one another
Undermined
Underpaid

These are just some of the devastating truths about how are are still “managed” in the world.  Even though the global population is 51%  female and has the majority voice… ours is barely still a whisper.

We give birth to the majority of American children who are: confused, anxious, angry, violent, neglected, obese, dazed, and drugged.

The media is running this crazy train and we are becoming increasingly empty, unavailable, and disconnected from our spiritual selves as a society and when I say that I do NOT imply that we need more religion.  What we need is DIS-connection from MEDIA and RE- Connection to the self.   We’ve completely lost our ability to “listen in” to the wisdom of self.

As women- we need to start a revelation.  We need to start accessing IN- sights  that can help us to wake to our own inner being and higher self.

It’s this self inside of each one of us that can lead the way for change.

and change it must.

IT MUST CHANGE.
